Waterville, ME - The Lyndon State College women's lacrosse team dropped a 20-6 decision to the University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday evening. The North Atlantic Conference contest was played at Thomas College. Lyndon falls to 2-3 overall and 0-3 in the NAC, while UMF improves to 2-5 on the season and 1-2 in conference.
Lyndon's Mikala Hodge (Newbury, VT) opened the scoring, finding the net just 1:19 into the contest. UMF's Carly Raymond (Topsham, ME) answered less than a minute later to tie things up. Hodge put the Hornets back in front with a free position goal at the 25:34 mark of the opening half.
UMF responded by scoring six consecutive goals to take a 7-2 lead. Keilly Lynch (Lyman, ME) evened things, scoring off of an assist from Sierra Gilley (Harpswell, ME). Isabella Monbouquette (Bath, ME) then converted a feed from Lynch to give the Beavers their first lead. Back to back goals from Raymond, followed by one from Gilley and one from Lynch, gave UMF a five-goal advantage.
The Hornets' Danielle Kuiper (Moretown, VT) broke the run by picking up an unassisted goal with 6:00 remaining in the opening half. Raymond tallied again just 13 seconds later to make it 8-3, UMF.
The Beavers' Jenessa Talerico (Lewiston, ME) then scored a man-up goal with a Lynch assist. Raymond and Monbouquette then each found the back of the net again, giving UMF an 11-3 lead at the half.
Lynch scored 57 seconds into the second half, but the Hornets responded with a pair of goals to cut their deficit to 12-5 with 25:57 to go. First, Hodge scored an unassisted goal, then she fed Taylor Cavaliero (Somers, NY).
UMF then put the game away by scoring eight unanswered goals, starting with three straight from Nichole Schofield (Troy, ME). Lynch and Gilley each tallied twice during the run, with Talarico adding a single goal.
Hodge recorded her fourth goal of the game with 2:36 to go to account for the final score.
The Beavers outshot the Hornets, 35-22, and held a 31-19 advantage in ground balls. UMF also controlled 23 draws to only five for Lyndon. UMF committed 24 turnovers, compared to 21 for Lyndon. Hornet goalie Amanda Hadley (Rutland, VT) made five saves on 25 shots on goal, while Heather Boland (Griswold, CT) stopped 12 of 18 shots.
Lyndon is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday with a 3:30 home contest against Colby-Sawyer College. UMF plays at Thomas on Wednesday.
