Hornet women shut out by NEC

Box Score

Henniker, NH - The Lyndon State College women's lacrosse team was unable to get on the scoreboard on Wednesday evening, falling to New England College, 21-0.  The Hornets fall to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the North Atlantic Conference, while the Pilgrims improve to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in conference.

NEC took control of the contest right from the onset.  The Pilgrims' Tara Bainbridge (South Hadley, MA) opened the scoring less than two minutes into the contest off of an assist from Tailor Chapin (Chelsea, VT).  Bainbridge found the back of the net again 29 seconds later, this time with an assist from Giuliana Kelvin (Laconia, NH).  Following goals from Kaitlyn Berry (Canterbury, NH) and Chapin, Bainbridge completed the hat trick less than five minutes into the game, as NEC took a 5-0 lead and never looked back.

The Pilgrims went on to score 16 first half goals, and added five more in the second half.  Bainbridge finished with nine goals on 11 shots, and also recovered four ground balls and caused five turnovers.  Alana Scott (Huntington, VT) also recorded a hat trick, while Anya Owens (Spofford, NH) had a game high five ground balls.  NEC goalie McKenzie Gallasso (South Windsor, CT) stopped all ten Hornet shots that she faced, while Felisha Olmstead (St. Johnsbury, VT) recorded five saves in the Lyndon goal.  Libby Start (Randolph, VT) had six draw controls for the Hornets.

The Pilgrims outshot the Hornets, 38-14, and held a 24-19 advantage in ground balls, and a 15-6 advantage in draw controls.  NEC earned nine free position shots to only two for Lyndon.

The Hornets will travel to Maine to play the University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday.  That game will be played at Thomas College and will begin at 5:00 pm.  NEC will host Gordon College tomorrow.
