Box Score Bangor, ME - The Lyndon State College women's lacrosse team, off to a 2-0 start, travelled to Husson University to open North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday afternoon. The host Eagles proved to be too much, downing the Hornets, 18-6. Lyndon falls to 2-1, while Husson improves to 1-2.
After Husson's Cali Newton (Rochester, NH) opened the scoring less than a minute into the contest, Kelly Begin (Epping, NH) drew the Hornets even with an unassisted goal. Husson ran off the next five goals to take control, and Lyndon never got close the rest of the way.
Amanda Deshaies (Wells, ME) and Korallei Fifield (Woolwich, ME) tallied five goals apiece to lead the Eagles. Maddy Olsen (Phippsburg, ME) picked up 12 ground balls and Mallory Burchill (Kennebunk, ME) made eight saves in goal.
Taylor Cavaliero (Somers, NY) scored twice for the Hornets, with Begin, Elizabeth Start (Randolph, VT), Danielle Kuiper (Moretown, VT), and Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, VT) each finding the net once. Amanda Hadley (Rutland, VT) stopped 14 shots on goal.
Husson outshot Lyndon, 44-19, and held a 52-35 advantage in ground balls.
The Hornets return to the field at New England College on Wednesday. Start time is 6:00 pm. Husson hosts Thomas on Wednesday.
