Hornet women down New England College on Senior day

Box Score

Lyndonville, VT - The Lyndon State College women's basketball team defeated New England College, 67-47, in their final regular season contest on Saturday afternoon.  With the win the Hornets finish in 5th place with a 10-8 conference mark, and move to 14-11 to clinch their first winning regular season since Lyndon became an NCAA Division III member in 2009.  NEC falls to 14-11 overall and 9-9 in the NAC, good for 6th place in the final conference standings.

Prior to tip-off Hornet seniors Mikalya Hodge (Newbury, VT) and Gabrielle Foy (Wilton, ME) were recognized.  Hodge and Foy both had big games in their final home game as Hodge recorded a double double with 22 points and 12 rebounds while Foy chipped in 19 points, including five three-point goals.  Renee Hudson (Gallatin, TN) led the Pilgrims with a game high 23 points.

Lyndon was able to produce a strong defensive effort that keyed the victory and avenged a Pilgrim victory at NEC earlier in the season.  The Hornets held the Pilgrims to 28.6% shooting (18 of 63) and held a 55-44 rebounding advantage.  Lyndon connected on 34.7% (25 of 72) of its shots.

The Hornets now move on to the North Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Championship Tournament for the first time since 2013.  Lyndon, the #5 seed, will travel to #4 Maine Maritime Academy on Tuesday.  Tip-off time is to be announced.  The Lyndon-Maine Maritime winner will then face NAC regular season champion and #1 seed Castleton University on Friday at Castleton.  On the other side of the draw, #6 NEC will play at #3 Husson University, with the winner advancing to face #2 Colby-Sawyer College in next Friday's other semi-final, also at Castleton.  The semi-final winners will then sqare off for the NAC Championship and the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament next Saturday, February 24th, at Castleton.
