Box Score Poultney, VT - The Lyndon Hornets women's volleyball team traveled to Green Mountain College for a non-conference matchup on Tuesday evening. The host Eagles caame out on top, 25-18, 18-25, 25-17, 25-12. Green Mountain improves to 2-5 with the win, while Lyndon falls to 1-8.
The opening set was tightly contested throughout. With Lyndon leading, 13-12, Green Mountain's Madison Wheeler (Lyndeborough, NH) recorded five straight service aces to give the Eagles a four point cushion. The Hornets were unable to put together a run to get back even, as the Eagles came away with a seven point win.
Faith Richard (Acushnet, MA)got the Hornets off to a good start in the second set, recording two service aces and a kill to make it 3-0 Lyndon. After the Eagles got on the board, Alexis Walker (Groton, CT) served up five straight points to make it 9-1, Lyndon. Green Mountain never got closer than five points the rest of the set, as the Hornets evened the match at 1-1.
Lyndon again started well in the third set, gaining a 5-3 advantage. With the score tied at 9-9, Green Mountain ran off three straight points, and the Hornets would never lead in the set again.
The Eagles' Sharena Armstrong (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands) served up six straight points midway through the fourth set to give the hosts a 16-7 advantage. Lyndon never got back in the set, as the Eagles closed things out.
Richard led Lyndon with four kills and eight digs. Meghan Campo (Essex Junction, VT) added two kills and nine digs. Estela Felix Almeida (South Gate, CA) had a stellar match for Green Mountain, recording 15 kills and 11 digs.
Lyndon returns to the court this Saturday in a North Atlantic Conference quad match at Johnson State College. The Hornets will face Maine Maritime Academy at noon and Husson University at 2:00 pm. Green Mountain has a NAC tri match on Saturday. The Eagles play at New England College against the hosts and Colby-Sawyer College.
