Box Score Lyndonville, VT - The Lyndon State College women's soccer team kicked off the 2017 season on Saturday afternoon, hosting the Plymouth State University Panthers in a non-conference contest. Plymouth erupted for 6 first half goals and cruised to a 6-0 victory, spoiling the head coaching debut of Lyndon's Katy Ebner. With the win the Panthers move to 2-0 on the season, while Lyndon falls to 0-1.
Plymouth's Lindsey Perkins opened the scoring, finding the back of the net 8:53 into the contest. After Caitlin Catina scored in the 22nd minute, Perkins tallied for the second time off of an assist from Naomi Kramer to make it 3-0 Plymouth. Michelle Henry, Hannah Murdough, and Keegan Burch each followed with goals for the Panthers, as the Hornets found themselves trailing 6-0 at the half.
The Hornets competed on more even terms for much of the second half, holding the Panthers scoreless in the session. Lyndon's
Johanna Sargent (West Brookfield, VT) had a busy afternoon in goal. Plymouth unleashed 51 shots on the afternoon. Sargent stopped 20 of the 26 that were on goal. Lyndon was only able to get off 4 shots, with Plymouth goalkeeper making 2 saves.
Lyndon returns to the pitch on Wednesday, as they travel to Southern Vermont College for 7:00 pm non-conference contest. The Hornets return home on Wednesday, September 13th, as they square off against Pine Manor College in another non-conference affair. That contest will kick off at 4:00 pm.
