Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Lyndonville, NY - The Lyndon State women's volleyball team dropped a pair of contests as part of a quad match held in Stannard Gymnasium on Saturday.  The Hornets opended up the day's events, falling in 3 sets to the Bay Path University Wildcats.  Bay Path followed that victory up with a 3-1 victory over Green Mountain College.  With the sweep, the Wildcats raised their record to 5-3 on the season.  Green Mountain was able to bounce back in their second contest and pick up their first win in three starts with a 3-1 victory over Paul Smith's College.  In the nightcap, Paul Smith's came from behind to post a 3-1 victory over the Hornets.  Paul Smith's is now 1-4 on the season, while Lyndon is still winless at 0-4.

In the opener, Bay Path's Ashlee Connors (Springfield, MA) ran of five straight service aces to ignite a 9-point Wildcat run and open up a 14-4 advantage.  Bay Path kept the Hornets at bay the rest of the set, coming away with a 25-10 win.  Set number 2 was all Bay Path.  Connors and Camielle Keith (Pawtucket, RI) recorded three kills each as Bay Path ran away with a 25-5 win.

The third set proved to be much more competitive.  Back to back aces from senior Alexis Walker (Groton, CT) gave the Hornets an 11-10 advantage.  Bay Path was able to increase the lead to four, but the Hornets rallied to get back within one at 18-17 following a pair of Wildcat errors.  That was as close as the Hornets would get, however, as Bay Path closed out the set, and the match, 25-20.

Connors led the Wildcats with four kills, five aces, and three digs.  Latonia Hornsby (Springfield, MA) added five kills and five aces, while Lexi Cears (Agawam, MA) was credited with 13 assists.  Walker and Faith Richard (Acushnet, MA) had two kills each for the Hornets.

Bay Path carried their momentum into their second match of the day as they jumped on the Green Mountain Eagles right away and captured a 25-7 win in the opening set.  The Wildcats went up 2-0 with a 25-15 win in set number two, before the Eagles were able to scratch out a 25-19 win in the third set.  Bay Path successfully closed things out, however, cruising to a 25-14 win in the fourth set.

Connors recorded seven kills versus the Eagles, while Lauren Vallee (Bristol, CT) added six kills and four service aces.  Cears again set the table throughout, as she recorded 21 assists.  Estela Felix Almeida (South Gate, CA) had a strong match for Green Mountain, posting eight kills, four service aces, and five digs.

Green Mountain was able to break into the win column for the first time this season in their second match.  The Eagles cruised to wins in the fiorst two sets, 25-17 and 25-16, before Paul Smith's rebounded with a 25-15 win in set three.  The Eagles then settled in for a 25-16 win in the fourth set to close out the match.

Almeida had a stellar performance for Green Mountain, posting nine kills and ten service aces.  Bryanna Hopple (Shippensburg, PA) added 14 assists and seven digs.  Jessica McLaughlin (Webster, NY) led the Bobcats with ten kills.

In the nightcap the Hornets started out strong in search of their first win.  With Richard serving Lyndon scored the first six points of the contest.  The Bobcats were able to narrow the gap to 11-8, but Lyndon Junior Samantha Theriault (West Ossipee, NH) recorded three straight aces to trigger a 5-1 run.  Lyndon was able to maintain a comfortable lead the rest of the set and come away with a 25-20 win.

Set number two looked early on like it was going to be more of the same, as midway through Lyndon appeared to be in control with a 16-9 advantage.  At that point Paul Smith's capitalized on five straight Hornet miscues to get back into the set and the match.  The Bobcats pulled even at 19-19 on a Lyndon service error, and the two teams went back and forth the rest of the set.  With Lyndon serving for the set and a 2-0 lead, Paul Smith's Julia Ho (Syracuse, NY) came through with a kill to tie the score.  Nayleece Williams (Catskill, NY) followed with an ace, then McLaughlin closed the set with a kill to take the set and even the match.

Set three was evenly contested early on.  Three straight Hornet points, highlighted by a Richard kill, gave Lyndon a 7-6 lead.  At that point, McLaughlin served up ten straight points for the Bobcats to put Paul Smith's in control, 16-7.  Lyndon wasn't able to get any closer than within five points the rest of the set, as Paul Smith's took it, 25-14.

Set four saw the Bobcats move in fromt 10-5 early on, then maintain some breathing room the remainder of the set.  With Paul Smith's leading, 19-14, Paige Farrington (Queensbury, NY) served out the match, as the Bobcats pulled away for a 25-14 win and picked up their first victory of the season.

Farrington had an outstanding match for Paul Smith's, recording eight kills, 18 assists, and five digs.  McLaughlin and Ho added six kills each.  Richard paced the Hornets with five kills, seven assists, and 15 digs.

The Hornets return to the court on Tuesday evening when they travel to Johnson State College for a 6:00 pm match.  The next home contest is set for the following Tuesday, September 26th, when Johnson State makes a return visit to Lyndonville.

Paul Smith's travels to Castleton State University tomorrow for a tri-match against Johnson State and host Castleton.  Green Mountain plays at Norwich University on Wednesday.  Bay Path travels to Curry College next Saturday for a tri-match against Eastern Nazarene University and Curry.
