Terriers Outlast Hornets

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Lyndon State College women's lacrosse team traveled to Thomas College Monday afternoon, dropping the North Atlantic Conference matchup 12-7.

The Terriers struck first in the opening minutes of the first half as senior Sophia LaVallee beat Hornets' goalie Amanda Hadley (Rutland, Vt.) in the top corner.  On the ensuing draw, Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, Vt.) won the draw control for the Hornets and went straight to the net for a goal, tying the game up at 1-1.

Thomas exploded for four straight goals in five minutes to take a 5-1 lead.  Kimberly Banks netted back-to-back goals along with a goal each from Lindsey Allen and Samantaha Greenlaw.

The Hornets cut the lead down to two as Miranda Chute and Hodge scored midway through the half.

Before the break, the Terriers received two goals from Greenlaw and another from Allen.  Hodge tallied two more with the Hornets trailing 8-5.

At the 18-minute mark of the second half, the Terriers looked to build on their lead as Tiffany Weeks fired in a goal.  Cassidy West netted her first career goal while Allen added her third of the game with five minutes remaining.

Felisha Olmstead and Taylor Cavaliero each sent in a goal for the Hornets while Ashley Gooden scored her first career goal for Thomas to finish at 12-7.

Allen and Greenlaw led the Terriers with three goals apiece along with a pair of goals from Banks.

Hodge finished with a game-high four goals while winning four draw controls for Lyndon State.  Cavaliero, Olmstead, and Chute pitched in a goal apiece.

Freshman Sydni Collier earned the victory in goal for Thomas after stopping 10 shots while Hadley was given the loss with seven saves.

Lyndon (0-3, 0-2 NAC) travels to New England College to play the University of Maine at Farmington at 11:00 a.m.

Thomas (1-4, 1-1 NAC) will host Castleton on Thursday, April 6 in a 4:00 p.m. conference contest at Smith Field.
