Tough Loss for Hornets

HENNIKER, N.H. – The Lyndon State College women's lacrosse team took a 25-1 defeat to New England College Monday evening.

 With the win the Pilgrims improve to 7-6 overall and 5-1 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play.  The loss drops the Hornets to 1-7 on the season and 1-6 in the NAC.

NEC's Tara Bainbridge (South Hadley, Mass.) led the way for the Pilgrims finishing with 10 points, including seven goals and three assists.  Allison Granata (Norwalk, Conn.) was the leading goal scorer on the afternoon scoring eight goals to go along with one assist, four draw controls and six ground balls.

Alana Scott (Huntington, Vt.) chipped in five goals and three assists, while Caitlin Shanahan (Rocky Point, N.Y.) finished with two goals and an assist.

The Hornets were led by Carmen Mears (Barre, Vt.) who scored the lone Lyndon goal along with two draw controls.  Lyndon's Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, Vt.) led the game with nine draw controls and three ground balls.

The Pilgrims needed nearly five minutes to score their first goal but once they did, the goals came frequently, as they scored the first 10 goals in a span of 19 minutes. A pair of goals by Bainbridge with under three minutes left in the half gave the Pilgrims a 14-0 lead at halftime.

NEC scored the first three goals of the second half until Lyndon got on the board with Mears' 11thgoal of the season.

The Pilgrims' Morgan Braniff (Tustin, Calif.) scored a player-down goal midway through the second half, followed by a goal by Shanahan for a 20-1 advantage. Granata, Scott, Bainbridge and Alyssa Tursi (East Rockaway, N.Y.) all scored in the final 15 minutes of the game for the 25-1 final.

Picking up the win in net for NEC was Mackenzie Meegan who finished with seven saves.

Splitting time in net for Lyndon was Samantha Turgeon who notched nine saves and Amanda Hadley who stopped five Pilgrim shots.
