Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Lyndon State College women's lacrosse team got their inaugural season underway against Norwich University Friday afternoon in non-conference action, dropping the contest 21-4.
Carmen Mears (Barre, Vt.) led the Hornets with three unassisted goals, four draw controls, and four ground balls. Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, Vt.) added a goal of her own along with three draw controls and two ground balls.
Chapel Guarnieri (Pepperell, Mass.) racked up eight total points of offense for the Cadets, setting a personal-best mark in point production, with six goals and two assists. Meaghan McGrath (Barre, Vt.) also set a career-high with six tallies while Kathryn Albretsen (Cotuit, Mass.) scored four times.
Norwich sprinted out to a 7-0 lead as Albretsen registered a hat trick in the first 5:13 of action. Hodge snapped the scoring streak with the first-ever goal scored in Lyndon State history, but the Cadets countered with 10-straight goals to capture a 17-1 advantage by the end of the first half.
The Hornets held the Cadets to four goals in the second half while Mears scored the last three for the visiting Hornets. The Hornets traveled back with the 21-4 loss.
The goaltending tandem of Janice Bolton (Stow, Mass.) and Lawson Hayes (Moorestown, N.J.) allowed four goals on nine shots. Amanda Hadley (Rutland, Vt.) made nine saves for Lyndon State against 30 shots.
Lyndon (0-0 NAC, 0-1) travels to Maine Maritime Academy for North Atlantic Conference action on Saturday, March 18th at 3:30 p.m.
Norwich (0-0 GNAC, 2-0) hits the road on Wednesday, Mar. 15, taking on Thomas (Me.) College at 4 p.m.
