Beavers Rally Pass Hornets

Box Score

FARMINGTON, MAINE – Both women's basketball teams of Lyndon State College (3-8, 2-4 NAC) and the University of Maine-Farmington (6-5, 5-1 NAC) were coming off of a win from the night before, but it was the Beavers who prevailed Saturday, taking the contest 69-55.

Within seconds, Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, Vt.) banked in a layup to start the game for the Hornets.  After a foul by Marley Harmon (Buxton, Maine), Elizabeth Ferry sunk one of two foul shots.  Aimee Thompson (Barnet, Vt.) continued the lead for the Hornets with a jump-shot, but the Beavers would soon take it with a pair of three-pointers by Jenessa Talarico (Lewiston, Maine) and Kelly Pomerleau (Turner, Maine).  The Beavers ended the quarter up 14-11.

The Hornets pushed to take the lead back at the 6:42 mark with a jump-shot by Harmon.  Soon after, Morgan Crocker (Boothbay, Maine) tied it up again with a pair of free throws, 20-20.  Harmon pushed the lead again for the Hornets, but was tied up once again by Meghan Smith.  Within the final four minutes, the Hornets scored four to the Beavers' two, ending the first half up 26-24 with the Hornets leading.

The beginning of the second half continued to show how equal both teams were.  The Beavers notched in five points before Harmon went in for a layup.  The teams continued to swap leads, ending the quarter with the Beavers up 45-44.

It all came down to the fourth and final quarter of who would take the game.  The Beavers answered 24 to the Hornets' 11 points, gaining their fifth conference win, 69-55.

Hodge recorded her second straight double-double pulling down 18 rebounds and a game high of 20 points.  Harmon added 4 rebounds and 11 points along with Abby Salvadore's (Portsmouth, N.H.) 9 rebounds and 8 points.

Offensively, the Beavers were led by Pomerleau with 18 points.  Meghan Smith (Boothbay, Maine) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
