Beavers Paddle Past Hornets

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – With their second match-up of the season, it was the University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team who came out on top with a 73-48 win over Lyndon State College Friday night.

To start the night off, the Beavers drained in a pair of threes until Marley Harmon (Buxton, Maine) began the night for the Hornets with a jump shot and Aimee Thompson (Barnet, Vt.) contributed one soon after.  After a layup by the Beaver's Kennadi Grover and Kelley Pomerleau's jump shot, Lyndon held UMF scoreless for the final five and a half minutes.  The Hornets were able to pull ahead and end the quarter up 12-10.

Within the second quarter there were seven lead changes and three ties.  Thompson knocked in eight of the Hornet's twelve points.  The Beavers were able to pull ahead in the final minute taking the half 30-24.

The Beavers began the second half with a 9-0 run until Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, Vt.) banked in the layup.  The Beaver's Cheyenne Malloy drained one from the behind the arc with Brittney LaFreniere (Randolph, Vt.) answering back soon after.  In the remaining seven minutes, the Beavers surged with a 16-5 run, allowing the Beavers to push the lead to 58-34.

The Beavers found their largest lead at the 7:53 mark with a 65-38 advantage.  Shelby Sheridan (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) then went on a 7-0 run for the Hornets.  In the final three minutes, the Beavers knocked in eight to the Hornets three.  The Beavers ended the night with their eighth conference win of the season, leaving with a 73-48 triumph. 

Lyndon was led by Thompson with 13 points and 6 rebounds.  Victoria Carlson (East Haven, Conn.) pitched in 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals.  Sheridan had a season high with nine points and four rebounds.

Farmington's Malloy led with 17 points and 6 rebounds.  Meghan Smith and Grover chipped in 11 points apiece. 

Lyndon (3-13, 2-8 NAC) hosts Thomas College tomorrow, Saturday, January 30th at 1:00 p.m.

Farmington (9-7, 7-2 NAC) will be traveling to Johnson tomorrow with a 1:00 p.m. tip as well.
