Final Quarter Pushes Eagles Past Hornets

LYNDON CENTER, Vt.  – The Lyndon State College women's basketball team continued North Atlantic Conference action against Husson on Saturday afternoon, giving the visitors an unsettling win of 74-61.

Lyndon's Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, Vt.) recorded her fourth straight double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds.  Aimee Thompson (Barnet, Vt.) and Brittney LaFreniere (Randolph, Vt.) added 9 points and 5 rebounds and 9 points and 3 rebounds respectively.

Husson's Kenzie Worcester had 21 points and 8 rebounds along with Victoria McIntyre's 20 points and 8 rebounds.

Husson was on the board first with a jump shot by Worcester with Hodge quickly answering back.  After a 6-0 run, Lyndon called a 30-sec timeout and came within two after a pair of free throws by Hodge and a jump shot by Victoria Carlson (East Haven, Conn.).  For the final five minutes of the first quarter, Lyndon was held scoreless, allowing Husson to take a 22-6 lead.

Lyndon came out strong holding the visitors to only two points to their fifteen within the first six and a half minutes of the second until Husson's Worcester drilled in a layup.  Both teams swapped baskets until Hodge finished the quarter with a made free throw, bringing Lyndon within two, 34-32.

After a jump shot by Worcester, Hodge added four points to tie the game up 36-36 at the 6:20 mark upon the start of the second half.  McIntyre knocked in two free throws, but Samantha Thurston (Bath, N.H.) tied it up again with a layup.  In the final five minutes, Husson outscored Lyndon 13-9, ending the quarter up 51-47.

Husson racked up the first seven points, but Lyndon answered back with a jump shot by both Thurston and Hodge and a three-pointer from LaFreniere on consecutive possessions, cutting the lead back down to four at 58-54.  Husson then went on an 11-0 run until LaFreniere and Thompson knocked in jump shots.  Worcester accounted for the final five points for Husson and Allison Brown (Monroe, N.H.) a three-pointer for Lyndon.  Husson is now 8-0 in conference action, after taking the contest 74-61.

Lyndon (3-10, 2-6 NAC) will be traveling to Colby-Sawyer on Tuesday, January 19th with a 5:30 PM tip.

Husson (10-3, 8-0 NAC) plays host to Castleton on Friday, January 22nd at 5:30 PM.
