Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. – In the second match of a doubleheader, the Lyndon women's volleyball team were swept by host Castleton 3-0.
Up 24-20 in the first set, the Hornets allowed the Spartans to tie the set 24-24. The Spartans ended up winning the set 27-25. After going down by eight points in the second set, the Hornets battled back to tie it up at 17 before the Spartans grabbed the set 25-22. The Spartans then finished off the match with a 25-15 win in the third.
The Hornets were led by junior Gwyneth Stahl (Whitinsville, Mass.) who recorded eight kills on a .533 attack percentage with 14 assists, four digs, and two blocks. Senior Laura Drake (Hinsdale, Mass.) added 11 assists, eight kills, and eight digs with Kelleigh Murtagh's (Merrimack, N.H.) six kills, three aces, and seven digs.
The Spartans were paced by Cassidy Tedeschi, hitting .421 with 12 kills, three aces, and four digs. Alex Madsen and Michaela Babineau each added 17 digs in the match.
"We had pretty good defense as a whole today but still need some work offensively," stated head coach Sean Fisher. "Even with the loss we know we are right there with them."
The Hornets (2-2) host NHTI Wednesday night at 6:30pm.
