Hornets topped by Panthers

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Lyndon State College women's basketball team was topped by Plymouth State University who came from behind in the fourth quarter for a 50-44 win at Foley Gymnasium Thursday night.  The Panthers improve to 2-4, while the Hornets fall to 1-4.

The Hornets attacked the paint offensively to enter the fourth quarter with a 35-29 lead, but were outscored by the Panthers 21-9 in the final frame.  PSU tied the game up at 36-36 with 8:12 left in the game.  Both teams would trade baskets before the Panthers took the lead 40-38 with 4:16 left to go.  The Panthers built up the lead to 46-40 and hung on to that lead by going 5 for 6 from the free throw line in the final two minutes.

Senior Aimee Thompson (Barnet, Vt.) and sophomore Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, Vt.) paced the Hornets with double-doubles.  Thompson recorded 13 points and 12 rebounds while Hodge add 10 points and 13 rebounds.

The Panthers were led by junior Ace Lawrence (Middletown, Conn.), who finished with a game-high 15 points.  Senior Taylor Perry (Simsbury, Conn.) added 14 points, seven rebounds and two assists, while junior Kayla Wyland (Melrose, Mass.) chipped in with seven points and nine rebounds.

Lyndon opens up North Atlantic Conference play Saturday at home against Colby-Sawyer College at 1:00 p.m.  Plymouth State hosts Rhode Island College in Little East Conference play on Saturday.
