Hornets fall short on senior day against Panthers

Box Score

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – The Lyndon State College women's soccer team fell short in their comeback bid against Plymouth State University on Sunday, losing 2-1.

The visiting Panthers got on the board early as they were awarded a penalty kick from a hand ball in the box.  Emily Bell's kick caromed off keeper Johanna Sargent's (West Brookfield, Vt.) hand and into the net in the 7th minute.

In the 22nd minute, Bell crossed a ball from the right side that found Hannah Kallis who placed a shot into the right side of the net to push the score to 2-0.

The Hornets were able to make a few pushes but were unsuccessful as the score remained 2-0 at the end of the first half.

Aitanna Greenwood (Salt Lake City, Utah) cut the score in half for the Hornets in the 55th minute when she received a lead pass from Kiya DeWitt (Pittsburg, N.H.) and dribbled closer to the goal before she carefully placed the ball around Plymouth keeper Annaliese Schmidt.

Despite a few attacks by the Hornets in the final minutes the Panthers would hang on for the 2-1 win.

Schmidt made two saves in the win for the Panthers (7-6-1, 2-3-1).

Sargent took the loss with a seven-save effort for the Hornets.

Lyndon finishes their season 2-13-1 overall and 1-8-0 in the North Atlantic Conference.

Plymouth State hosts Castleton on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
