Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – The Lyndon State College women's soccer team fell short in a come-back attempt against University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday, losing 3-2 at Leib Field.
Ashley Gleason gave UMF the lead in the first half in just the 9th minute. Bridget Humphrey passed a through ball to Gleason, who jumped up for the header and lined the shot into the right side of the net.
Gleason's goal stood for the remainder of the half but Dayle Jordan put the Beavers up two in the 47th minute with a header off a corner kick by Katie Clark.
The Hornets would answer about a minute later as Aitanna Greenwood (Salt Lake City, Utah) placed a free kick from the corner of the box just under the crossbar to cut the Beavers' lead back to one.
Clark scored what would become the decisive goal in the 63rd minute off a pass in the box from Lydia Roy.
The Hornets refused to concede as Kajay Rooke (Milford, N.H.) scored off another free kick with less than five minutes remaining.
The Hornets were unable to score the equalizer before time ran out as the Beavers (7-9-1, 4-4-1 NAC) held on for the 3-2 win.
Sam Hatch and Kiana Thompson split time in net to secure the win for the Beavers with Thompson making three saves.
Johanna Sargent (West Brookfield, Vt.) made 15 saves in net for the Hornets (2-12-1, 1-8-0 NAC) in the loss.
The Hornets will finish up the regular season Sunday as they host Plymouth State University at 2:30p.m.
