Box Score 2 Hornets drop match to Spartans
CASTLETON, Vt. - In the first match of the day, the Lyndon women's volleyball team lost to Castleton 3-0.
Castleton came out firing and earned a 25-14 victory in the opening set. The Spartans appeared poised to take the second set leading 24-20, however, Lyndon came back to tie it up 24 apiece. Kills by Brittany Brayman and Amanda Chambers gave Castleton the 26-24 win. The Spartans took the third set 25-18.
Gwyneth Stahl (Whitinsville, Mass.) led the Hornets with an impressive triple-double of 13 assists, 11 digs and ten kills. Ashley Barksi (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) added 13 digs and three aces while Laura Drake contributed eight assists, eight digs and seven kills while hitting .368.
The Spartans were led by Brayman who finished with 12 digs, 13 kills and two aces. Kristi Lawless and Chambers led the team with 13 digs apiece while J'Leen Diaz chipped in 10.
Hornets sweep Eagles
CASTLETON, Vt. - The Hornets concluded their day with a 3-0 victory over Green Mountain, to improve to 6-10 overall and 2-2 in the NAC while the Eagles fell to 1-17 and 1-3 in conference play. Lyndon St. took the first set 25-20 and then captured each of the remaining two by matching 25-18 margins.
Gwyneth Stahl had another solid match for the Hornets with six kills, six assists and four digs. Ashley Barski had 11 digs and four aces while Abbey Green (Exeter, R.I.) and Kelleigh Murtagh (Merrimack, N.H.) both added five aces in the match. Murtagh also recorded 13 digs and two kills.
Torie Cowell contributed eight kills, four aces and eight digs for the Eagles while hitting a team-high .412. Alxa Lujan added ten digs, three kills and one ace while Sandra Parra registered eight assists and six digs.
The Hornets play Husson and Maine Maritime in a quad match at Johnson St. on Saturday.
