Box Score LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – The Lyndon women's soccer team was edged by New England College 1-0 in North Atlantic Conference play Sunday afternoon.
In the 61st minute, Pilgrim Rachel Thomas advanced the ball up to Tara Bainbridge as she streaked up the middle of the field. Bainbridge beat the defender to kick the ball past Hornet keeper Johanna Sargent (West Brookfield, Vt.) and into the net for the lone goal of the day.
New England College kept the pressure on the Lyndon defense for the majority of the afternoon, producing 30 total shots.
The Hornets were able to advance the ball up to the front line a few times throughout the game but the Pilgrims' quick back line held the home team to just two shots with one on goal.
Pilgrim Mackenzie Meegan recorded the one save in net for the shutout win.
Sargent recorded eight saves in the loss.
The Hornets (1-9-1, 0-6 NAC) continue NAC play at Johnson State College on Wednesday at 1:30pm. The Pilgrims (8-7-1, 5-2 NAC) host Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday at 12:00pm.
