Lyndon Falls to Husson

Bangor, ME – Husson University women's basketball defeated Lyndon State, 84-62, on Saturday afternoon at Newman Gym to improve to 8-2 in North Atlantic Conference play (10-6 overall). The Hornets fall to 3-13 (2-8 NAC).


In the first half, Lyndon took a 6-0 lead before Husson got on the board with a Victoria McIntyre (Mars Hill, ME). The Eagles found themselves down 10-2 minutes later, before Chandler Guerrette (Presque Isle, ME) took control and brought Husson within three. A layup by Aimee Thompson (Barnet, VT) gave the Hornets an 18-9 lead, and two free throws from Emily Gray (Quincy, MA) would give Lyndon their biggest lead at 20-9 with just over eight minutes remaining in the half.


Husson fought back to within three points at 29-26, driven by a huge effort from McIntyre and Katy Brochu (Bangor, ME), and they tied it up at 29-29 with 2:40 on the clock. The Eagles grabbed the lead and headed into halftime up 36-33 off a Kylie Richards three-pointer.
At the half, Gray led the field with 14 points for the Hornets. Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, VT) had a team-high four first half rebounds for Lyndon, and the team shot 44.4 percent from the field. Husson shot 30.8 percent from the field and was led by Brochu with 12 points and five rebounds.


The Eagles came out strong in the second half, with a quick three from Samira Cruz (Orlando, FL) followed by a jumper from Guerrette to put the Eagles up 40-33. The Eagles increased their lead to 12 when a Brochu layup made it 51-39. A McIntyre three made it 54-39 at 12:18. Husson increased their lead for the remainder of the half, outscoring Lyndon State 48-29 and finishing with an 84-62 victory.


Guerrette finished with a game-high 19 points, followed by Brochu with 18 points and eight rebounds. McIntyre also scored in the double digits, with 14 points for the Eagles.
For the Hornets, Gray finished with 16 points, and Thompson scored 12. Hodge had a team-high seven rebounds.


Husson will next host Colby College in a non-conference game on Tuesday at 7 PM. Lyndon State will travel to Norwich on Tuesday for a 7 PM game, as well.
