Lyndon comeback bid falls short

Box Score

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – Trailing 44-28 with 15:09 remaining, Lyndon rallied to within one with on an Emily Gray three with 42 second remaining. However, a made free throw by Bianca Stoutamyer and a pair from Elizabeth Ferry would be enough to propel the University of Maine at Farmington to a slim 62-60 win over Lyndon Saturday.

With the win, the Beavers upped their overall record to 3-4 and are now a perfect 3-0 in North Atlantic Conference play. The Hornets meanwhile fall to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in the NAC.

"We were much more focused mentally in the second half," said Lyndon Head Coach Vinnie Maloney. "We got out of sorts and made a few defensive mistakes early on, but we played hard the final eight minutes and did a much better job rebounding the ball."

The Hornets had an opportunity to send the game into overtime, but managed to hit only one free throw in the final minute of play.

Ferry finished the contest with 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and one steal while Meghan Smith added 12 points six rebounds, two assists and one steal/ Lindsay Ranquist and Rhi Jackson had nine points each from Farmington with Ranquist collecting seven rebounds, four assists and one steal.

Gray (Quincy, Mass.) had 13 points to lead the Hornets and Allison Brown (Monroe, N.H.) added 11 points, three rebounds and one steal off the bench. For a second-straight contest, Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, Vt.) registered a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

"I was proud that the team gave itself an opportunity to win," said Maloney. "Allison and Mikayla played very well for us and we knew this would eventually come from both of them."

Lyndon hosts New England College Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
