Lawrence leads Panthers to win over Lyndon

Box Score

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – DeAsia Lawrence tossed in 25 points – including 12 from beyond the three-point arc - to propel Plymouth State to a 62-56 non-conference women's basketball victory over Lyndon Saturday at Stannard Gymnasium.

With the win the Panthers improve to 3-1 while the Hornets fall to 0-2 on the season.

"We played much better today than we did in our first game,' said Lyndon Head Coach Vinnie Maloney. "I felt we played good defense down the stretch, but Lawrence got loos a couple times and that hurt us."

Kayla Wyland had nine points and seven rebounds off the bench for Plymouth and Tiffany Lewis had 11 rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals. Savannah Miller dished out four assists.

Emily Gray (Quincy, Mass.) and Aimee Thompson (Barnet, Vt.) had 16 points each for the Hornets and Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, Vt.) had eight points to go along with six rebounds. Lyndon rallied to within three with less than three minutes to play, but the Hornets could not sustain its momentum long enough to steal the victory.

"We were getting good shots," said Maloney. "Some of our players still don't have their legs underneath them. We still out rebounded them and had only 12 turnovers. All we can do is continue to show, practice hard and things will improve down the road.

Lyndon returns to action Sunday when it travels to Bennington to face Southern Vermont College at 2 p.m.
