Plymouth women upend Lyndon

Box Score

NEW HAMPTON, N.H. – Plymouth State scored two goals in the first five minutes of the second half Wednesday and went on to a 3-2 victory over Lyndon in a non-conference women's soccer match at the New Hampton School.

The Hornets jumped out to  a 2-1 lead in the first half on a pair of goals by Makayla Lyndes (Lyndonville, Vt.), but the Panthers came out of intermission firing as Emily Crawford scored at 46:45 and Kate Dasey followed at 49:38 to push the Panthers into the lead.

That completed the scoring in the contest as Plymouth improved to 3-5 and Lyndon dropped to 4-7.

The Panthers took a 1-0 lead nine minutes into the contest when Hannah Kallis ran down a ball on the left side, cut to the inside and placed a shot over the keeper into the top right corner of the net.  It took Lyndon State just three minutes to tie the score as Lyndes broke in alone behind the Panther defense, goalkeeper Annaliese Schmidt no chance as she buried her first of the night.

PSU nearly regained the lead in the 18th minute but Lyndon goalie Julianna Anderson (Manchester, N.H.) made a nice save on Kallis from point blank range.
The Hornets pulled ahead on Lyndes' second goal of the game and third of the season in the 29th minute as the blasted a shot from the far right side into the top left corner.

Crawford finished off a centering pass from Emily Bell less than two minutes into the second half to tie the score again, Crawford collecting her third of the season. Dasey scored on a one-timer from right in front of the goal off a centering pass from Brittany Terra three minutes later to give the Panthers the lead back.

The best scoring chance for either team the rest of the way came with five minutes remaining when Plymouth's Sophie Brisere put a header on goal but Anderson was there for the save. Anderson finished with nine saves for Lyndon.

Plymouth State is home Saturday, hosting Western Connecticut State at noon on Currier Field while Lyndon plays on the road Saturday at Thomas College in Waterville, Maine. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
