JOHNSON, Vt. - The Lyndon State women's volleyball team downed home-standing Johnson State 3-1 at Carter Gymnasium in a non-conference tri-match on Sunday afternoon. The Hornets were sharp after losing the opening set 25-7. They bounced back beating the Badgers in three straight sets by the scores of 25-22, 25-16, and 31-29. With the loss Johnson slips to 0-16, 0-2 (NAC) on the season while Lyndon advances to 7-7, 1-1 (NAC).

Lyndon squeaked past the Badgers prior to a deciding fifth set. Kelleigh Murtaugh (Merrimack, N.H.) led a balanced attack for the Hornets with an eight-kill, two-dig and a three-service-ace effort.

For Johnson, Andrea Williams posted five kills and five service aces in the defeat.

Later in the day, the Mitchell College women's volleyball team downed Lyndon 3-0. The Mariners edged the Hornets in three straight closely contested sets 25-21, 25-21, and 25-20. With the loss Lyndon slips to 7-8, 1-1 (NAC) on the season while Mitchell advances to 5-11, 1-3 (NECC).

Lyndon was paced by Abbey Greene (Exeter, R.I.) who tallied seven kills, three aces, and one block. Morgan Diltz (Moultonborough, N.H.) also chipped in seven kills and two aces in the defeat.

Barbara Fontes led the Mariners with 14 digs. In addition, Amanda Garcia posted thirteen kills, two aces, and three blocks in the non-conference victory for the Mariners.
