Lyndon tops Johnson, falls to Cobleskill at JSC Tri-Match

JOHNSON, Vt. – Lyndon split a pair of non-conference women's volleyball matches, earning a hard-fought 3-2 (25-22, 10-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-7) win over host Johnson State before dropping a 3-0 decision (17-25, 14-25, 19-25) to SUNY Cobleskill. 

Lyndon 3, Johnson 2 (22-25, 25-10, 22-25, 25-22, 15-7)

In a back-and-forth affair, visiting Lyndon took the fifth and final set 15-7 to earn a 3-2 victory, their first win on the season.  Johnson took set one but saw the Hornets roll in the second set to tie the match. 

The teams would split the next to sets, each winning 25-22, to tie the match but Lyndon would take control in the final set for the triumph.  It was a defensive battle with the two teams combining for 139 digs, 70 by Lyndon and 69 by Johnson.

Hornets' Morgan Diltz (Moultonboro, N.H.) compiled eight kills, seven service aces, and 15 digs, Joy Piper (Belmont, N.H.) had four kills, 13 digs, and 11 assists, and Laura Drake (Hinsdale, Mass.) had a trio of kills, 10 digs, and a team-high 12 assists.

Johnson saw Kylie VanEtten stack up match-highs of 14 assists and 17 digs and Andrea Williams had a match-high 11 kills to go with 15 digs.

Cobleskill 3, Lyndon 0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-19)

In match two of the day Cobleskill fending off Lyndon to earn a 3-0 victory. Tremendous attack depth keyed the victory for the Fighting Tigers with six different players recording three or more kills led by Kady Porterfield and her 11. Cobleskill nearly doubled Lyndon in kills with a 33-17 final tally for the match.

Casey Holbert dealt out 11 assists to go with a pair of digs while Amber Baker had a nice five-kill, five-dig, three-assist outing for the Fighting Tigers.

Lyndon was paced by Sarah Adams (Alton, N.H.) who had seven kills and five digs and Drake who had six assists, six digs, and five service aces.
