Pilgrims pull away from Hornets

HENNIKER, N.H.— Behind a late surge, New England College posted a 67-58 conference win over Lyndon in Bridges Gym. 

The first half was tight the entire way, with neither team able to take a lead by more than five points. While the Hornets led most of the way, NEC was able to come back towards the end of the period to take a 28-27 lead into the locker room, after a 5-0 run in the final 58 seconds.

The second half began the same way, with the Hornets cruising on a 6-0 run in the first two minutes. However, with 13:48 to play in the game, the Pilgrims took the lead and never looked back as they stretched the lead to as many as 11 points midway through the period. In the final stage, Lyndon State closed on a 4-0 run, but was not able to match the tally NEC posted.

The Pilgrims and Hornets had a number of lead changes within the course of the game but with strong contributions from Rachel Williams (12 points, eight rebounds) and Taylor Burgess (14 points, 17 rebounds), the Pilgrims were able to pull away and secure the win.
 
Contributing for the Hornets were Naomi White (Danville, Vt.) who finished with a team-high 20 pointsand Donna Lawson (Irasburg, Vt.) who had eight points and nine rebounds. Chelsea Watson (Eliot, Maine) also added seven points and five boards.
