Strese lifts Hornets over Beavers

Box Score

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Emily Strese (Gilmanton, N.H.) scored the game-winning goal at the 7:17 mark of sudden-death overtime as Lyndon defeated the University of Maine at Farmington 1-0.

In doing so, the Hornets earned their first North Atlantic Conference win of the season and ended a three-game losing streak.

In the final minutes of overtime, Strese picked up a loose ball just outside the penalty box and streaked down the left side toward the Beavers' goal. After eluding a defender, Strese unleashed a shot that was stopped momentarily by UMF goalkeeper Beth Lebel.

Strese pounced on the carom and deposited a shot into the lower right corner of the net to give Lyndon (5-3, 1-1) the victory. The tally was unassisted.

Tia Billado (Bellows Falls, Vt.) made eight saves to earn her third shutout of the season while Lebel turned aside five shots in the loss. UMF (3-2-2, 2-1) outshot the Hornets in the contest by a margin of 15-12.
