Sam Matthews

Sam Matthews enters his 10th season on the Hornet coaching staff after joining the staff in 2015.  He is an alumnus of Lyndon State College who played baseball and graduated with a degree in Physical Education in 2016.

Matthews is credited with developing a pair of All-Conference pitchers, James Mundy and 2019 North Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Year Jake Jourdain.

In his senior season, Matthews helped lead the Hornets into the 2014 North Atlantic Conference playoffs.  He finished the season as one of the top pitchers in the conference. He led the NAC with 11 appearances, was second in saves with three and placed fourth in strikeouts with 37.  He was named NAC Pitcher of the Week in April, 2014, and was selected to the NAC All-Tournament Team that season.

Matthews will be working with the Hornet pitchers on mechanics and the mental approach.  He previously served as head coach of the Vermont Royal in the Fall Showcase League, the premiere high school fall baseball league in New England.  He was also the junior varsity baseball coach at St. Johnsbury Academy.
