Hornet softball splits with Norwich in the snow

Northfield, VT - The Vermont State University Lyndon and Norwich University softball teams battled each other and the elements on Wednesday afternoon.  Playing in weather more becoming of winter than spring, the Hornets rallied from a game one defeat to take the nightcap and pick up a doubleheader split.  Lyndon moved to 3-12 on the season, while Norwich is now 1-3 so far this season.

Game 1 - Norwich 14, VTSU Lyndon 6

Lyndon took a 5-2 lead through three innings, but an eight-run fourth for Norwich proved to be the difference.  Hailey Williams had a big game at the plate to lead the Cadets.  She was four for four with two runs scored and two runs batted in.  Madison DeCota and Rachel Kempf added three hits apiece.  Marin McGinn picked up the win after allowing only one run in three innings of relief.

Seairra Anderson (Somersworth, NH) had a triple and a double with three runs batted in and a run scored for the Hornets.  Riley McNamara (Manchester, NH) al;so had two hits and Shyanne Glencross (Tilton, NH) drove in a pair.  McNamara started in the circle for Lyndon and took the loss.

Game 2 - VTSU Lyndon 7, Norwich 5

In the nightcap it was Lyndon who came from behind, after Norwich grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first inning.  The Hornets rallied, and Claudia Knapp's (Howell, NJ) two-run home run in the top of the third inning gave Lyndon the lead.  Glencross added a two-run shot of her own in the fourth to give the Hornets some breathing room.

Glencross was the hitting star for Lyndon.  She added an RBI double and scored three times.  McNamara also had a pair of hits.  Emily Anderson (Levittown, NY) went five innings in the circle to pick up the win.

McGinn had a two-run home run and a single to lead Norwich.  Williams and Adelette Gutierrez also had two hits for the Cadets.  Kennedy White started and took the loss.

Lyndon returns to action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Bay Path University for another non-conference doubleheader.  First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
