Lyndonville, VT - The women's tennis teams from Vermont State University's Lyndon and Johnson campuses squared off in a pair of non-conference matches on Wednesday afternoon. At the end of the day it was the Johnson Badgers that came away with a pair of victories, evening their record at 2-2 on the season. Lyndon remained winless in five matches.
Match 1 - VTSU Johnson 9, VTSU Lyndon 0
While the visiting Badgers picked up a walkover win and a retirement win at second and third doubles, the first doubles matchup between Lyndon's Kiara Mack (Winooski, VT) and Kazandra Gonzalez (Norwalk, CA) and Johnson's Kaitlyn Stone and Kali Wooster proved to be the most competitive match of the opener. The Badger duo prevailed, 8-6, giving the visitors the match due to two walkovers in singles.
With the match decided, Johnson swept the remaining singles matches. The best singles contest came in the fourth flight, where Johnson's Sierra Reed downed Lyndon's Chloe McIntire (Bradford, VT).
Match 2 - VTSU Johnson 7, VTSU Lyndon 2
The Hornets played some of their best tennis of the season in the first and second doubles matchups. In the second flight, McIntire and Alyssa Gerrish (Alburgh, VT) rolled past Johnson's Caitlyn Morey and Dahlia Maynard, 8-1. The first doubles match was again a competitive affair, with Mack and Gonzalez prevailing, 8-6, over Kamryn Devero and Nikki Sweet. Johnson picked up a walkover win at three.
Johnson put to rest any thoughts of a Hornet victory with a sweep of the six singles flights. McIntire was again a part of the best of the matchups, this time falling to Devero, 8-3.
