Lyndonville, VT - Thomas College came away with victories in all nine flights, spoiling Senior Day for the Vermotn State University Lyndon men's tennis team. With the North Atlantic Conference win, the Terriers improved to 10-2 on the season and remain unbeaten in conference play at 7-0. The Hornets close the season at 4-8 overall and 4-4 in the NAC.
The Terriers jumped in front by picking up victories in all three singles flights. Gabriel McPhail and Liam Gould breezed by Jeffrey Blais (Newport, VT) and David Gratton (Newport, VT), 8-1 in first singles and Kegan Rodrigue and Caleb Daigneault downed Stephen Wutzl (Brookfield, CT) and James Salvas (Morrisville, VT) at number three. In the most competitive of the matches, the Terrier duo of Seb Soto and Calvin Cutler picked up an 8-5 win over Joseph Patrick Osborn (Norwich, VT) and Matthew McGeehan (Milford, CT) in second doubles.
Moving to singles play, Gould made quick work of Wutzl at number three, 6-0, 6-0. Then McPhail clinched the win for Thomas with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Blais in the first flight. With the outcome decided, Cutler got past Gilbert Flores (Winstead, CT) at four, then Soto edged Gratton, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 at number two. Danny Kezerle was an 8-2 pro set winner over McGeehan at six, and Rodrigue got past Osborn, 6-2, 7-5, to close out the match.
Prior to Saturday's match, Lyndon honored its two seniors who were competing in their final match as Hornets. Osborn will graduate in May, with McGeehan scheduled to graduate in December. Both players were joined on the court by family and friends.
