Lyndonville, VT - Two of Vermont State University's campus softball teams squared off on the diamond on Tuesday. After VTSU Johnson took the opener, VTSU Lyndon rebounded for a walk-off run rule win in the nightcap. Lyndon is now 6-15 on the season, while Johnson is 6-14.
Game 1 - VTSU Johnson 9, VTSU Lyndon 6
The Badgers broke a tie game with three runs in the top of the seventh inning. Isabel Atkisson had three hits for the Badgers. Audrey Tembreull added a triple, a single, and a pair of runs batted in. Regan Crowe went the distance in the circle to earn the win. She allowed five earned runs and struck out eight.
Claudia Knapp (Howell, NJ) had a big game for Lyndon. She was three for four with a double, two runs batted in, and two runs scored. Saleena Porter (St. Johnsbury VT) hit a solo home run and Blake Southworth (Bethel, VT) had two hits. Victoria Valentine (East Burke, VT) suffered the loss after allowing five earned runs and striking out seven.
Game 2 - VTSU Lyndon 9, VTSU Johnson 1
The Hornets put what had been a competitive game away with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to come away with the walk-off victory. Valentine had a single, a double, two runs batted in and two runs scored. Seairra Anderson (Somersworth, NH) also had a pair of hits. Bailey Quire (Gainesville, FL) picked up the complete game victory after scattering six hits and striking out six.
Crowe and Taylor Reddick each had two hits for Johnson. Reddick pitched a complete game and took the loss.
Lyndon will get back into North Atlantic Conference play on Thursday when they host the University of Maine at Farmington. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
