Quinlan Peer nominated for NAC Man of the Year

Waterville, ME - Northern Vermont University-Lyndon student-athlete Quinlan Peer (Saranac Lake, NY) has been nominated for the North Atlantic Conference Man of the Year award, as announced by the conference today. The award encompasses all facets of the NCAA Division III Student-Athlete experience.

Peer graduated in May with a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast & Digital Journalism with a minor in Sport Management.  He earned a 3.79 grade point average and was named to the Dean's List in all eight of his semesters at Lyndon.  He was also a six-time NAC All-Academic Team selection.  Peer was also nominated for a regional Emmy Award on two occasions.

Peer was heavily involved on campus during his time at Lyndon.  He was the President of the Student Government Association this past year.  He has also been a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, serving as Treasurer in 2021-2022.  Peer was also the Lyndon representative on the Vermont State College Student Advisory Committee and coordinated student activism leading to the reversal of the VTSU library decision.  He was selected as the student speaker at this year's Commencement.

Peer was also Vice President of The Critic, Lyndon's student newspaper.  He worked as an Orientation leader and volunteered with the St. Johnsbury After School Program and Lyndon Area Youth Soccer.  He helped organize a campus food drive and coordinated volunteer efforts at the Caledonia County Fair.  He also interned in the Lyndon athletic department this past spring.

Peer was a three-sport athlete at Lyndon.  He was a four-year member of the men's soccer team.  Interestingly, he started at each of ten field positions at one time or another during his career.

Peer enjoyed his greatest athletic success as a member of the Hornet men's tennis team.  He competed for three seasons and earned All-Conference honors as a doubles player in each season.  He was also named All-Conference in singles in 2021, as he helped the Hornets to their first and thus far only NAC Championship.  He received the Men's Tennis Coaches Award this spring.

This past spring, Peer added lacrosse to his athletic resume.  He joined the Hornet men's program and competed as a midfielder.

Peer has accepted a position as a producer with WRGB in Schenectady, NY.  He credits his experience as a Hornet student athlete with equipping him with the skills needed for his new position. "Producers must have two types of skill sets to be successful, time management and leadership.   Throughout my time as an athlete, I learned to value how much time was in a day and how much class, practice, activities, and homework I could jam into in a day.  Now as a producer, I will have to jam as much possible news into the 1-hour show I will be in charge of.  Along with that being an athlete has taught me the importance of being early, if you're early to practice you are ready when it begins.  I plan on taking this mindset into the workforce."

Peer is among seven outstanding male student-athletes that have been nominated for the NAC Man of the Year award.  The NAC Man of the Year will be announced in early July and honored on his campus during the 2023-24 academic year.

The NAC Man of the Year award is modeled after the NCAA's Woman of the Year program.  Established in 1991, the NCAA Woman of the Year award recognizes graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.
