Johnson, VT - Northern Vermont University-Lyndon rallied from a two-run deficit to score three times in the top of the seventh inning and earn a 4-3 North Atlantic Conference victory over Northern Vermont University-Johnson on Saturday afternoon. The conference game was the first of a doubleheader. The host Badgers took the nightcap, a non-conference matchup, by a 5-2 score. With the split, the Hornets moved to 5-14 on the season and 1-4 in NAC play. The Badgers are now 4-13 on the season and winless in five NAC starts.
Game 1 - NVU-Lyndon 4, NVU-Johnson 3
Johnson took a 3-1 lead into the seventh inning but Lyndon rallied for the win. After back to back singles from Amber Everett (Morrisville, VT) and Adriana Lemieux (St. Johnsbury, VT), Claudia Knapp (Howell, NJ) reached on an error to load the bases. Saleena Porter's (St. Johnsbury, VT) sacrifice fly and a Badger error on the play tied the game. Victoria Valentine (Burke, VT) then delivered a two-out base hit to score Knapp with what turned out to be the winning run. Valentine also earned the win by going the distance in the circle.
Game 2 - NVU-Johnson 5, NVU-Lyndon 2
Jennavieve Rapoza's three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning broke a 2-2 tie and lifted the Badgers to the non-conference victory.
The Hornets will play on their home field for the first time on Sunday afternoon when Rivier University viits the Skip Pound Softball Complex for a 1:00 pm doubleheader.
