Hornet men's tennis sweeps NVU-Johnson on Senior Night

Stowe, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's tennis team celebrated Senior Day with a 9-0 North Atlantic Conference win over Northern Vermont University-Johnson ath the Topnotch Tennis Academy on Wednesday evening.  With the win, Lyndon improved to 3-6 on the season and 3-2 in NAC play.  Johnson remained winless in eight matches, including five NAC outings.

The Hornet second doubles team of Jeffrey Blais (Newport, VT) and David Gratton (Newport, VT) made quick work of the Johnson duo of Romelle Watts and Mohammed Semega, winning 8-0 to put the Hornets in front.  The first doubles team of Quinlan Peer (Saranac Lake, NY) and Garrick Webster (Terryville, CT) followed with an 8-3 win over Johnson's Riley Fitzgerald and Malik View.  Joseph Patrick Osborn (Hanover, NH) and Matthew Condon (East Bridgewater, MA) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win over Adiance Cheromiah and Anthony Barbieri in the third flight.

Gratton opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Watts at number four.  Webster then clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-0 second singles win over View.  Peer, playing first singles for the first time in a NAC match, was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Fitzgerald.  James Salvas (Morrisville, VT) won at sixth singles, 6-1, 6-3 over Jeremias Fagan.  Blais breezed by Barbieri, 6-0, 6-0, at third singles.  Then Condon came away with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Semega in the ginal match of the night.

Prior to the start of tonight's match, Lyndon's three seniors, Peer, Webster, and Condon, were recognized and honored for their contributions to the Hornet program.  Head coach Laura Laramee gave a few remarks about each and presented them with gifts of appreciation.

Lyndon will wrap up the regular season on Saturday afternoon when they travel to SUNY Delhi for a match with significant NAC playoff implications.  The Hornets can clinch a spot in the NAC championship match with a win.  Saturday's match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm.
