Box Score 2 CASTINE, Maine - Leah Jackson went 5-for-7 including four RBI's leading the Maine Maritime softball team to sweep over Lyndon in a doubleheader at Ritchie Field. Casey McCloskey (Howland, ME) tossed a three-hit shutout and went 1-for-3 to go along with a run scored as the Lady Mariners won 11-0 in the nightcap.
Jackson went 2-for-4 with three RBI's in the game including a bases loaded double that broke the game open. MMA scored five runs in the first inning of the second game and then tacked on five more runs over the next two innings to run away with the victory. Brittany Hunt went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI's while Sabrina Keach also collected two RBI's.
The Hornets collected just three hits over five innings while pitcher Natalie Shams (Swampscott, Mass.) was touched for 12 hits and 10 runs in three innings of work.
In the first game, the Hornets jumped on MMA for three runs in the first inning when Tia Billado (Bellows Falls, Vt.) knocked a three run blast over the left field fence. MMA responded for two runs in the bottom of the inning but trailed 3-2 going into the sixth inning. The Lady Mariners tied the game in the bottom of the sixth but stranded two base runners as the game went into the seventh tied a 3-3.
Both teams failed to score in the seventh and in the top of the eighth Lyndon scored twice on a two run double by Meghan Gadapee (Littleton, N.H.) giving the visitors a 5-3 advantage. The Lady Mariners responded with three unearned runs in the bottom of the inning to win the game in dramatic fashion.
Casey McCloskey picked up the win for MMA going three innings and striking out eight Hornet batters. Jackson went 3-for-3 with an RBI while Megan Russell collected three hits and two runs scored.
